An inventory of the latest additions
I think the map is coming together nicely and is offering a lot of details.
However, working on adding more details (relief, hills, vegetation, rivers, etc.) makes me diverge from the Tolkien family's depictions of Middle-earth and what is considered canon.
In order to circumvent this issue, it is now possible to toggle the detailed version of the map with the same settings already in place for the non-canon points of interest. This way, the map can be enjoyed by both purists and those who want to see more details coming from the MERP extended universe.
The non-canon version of the map stays the default as I quite like the idea of having a "populated" Middle-earth to explore.
On another matter, mountains have been redrawn again, the "Tolkien style" mountains were too dark thus creating big patches of dark areas on the map. I went for a more "outline" style, like I've done for the hills. I think it works better that way.
Biomes also have been revamped with a more "aquarelle" style around the edges. It allows for a better blend between biomes and the rest of the map, and it also gives a more "hand-drawn" feel to the map. On top of that, biome colors are now more pronounced.
On the POIs side, I've made some adjustments to some as they were classified as "canon" when they shouldn't have been.
The illustration of famous places of Middle-earth are hidden for now as I wasn't satisfied with the result. I will work on improving them and add them back later on.
That said, I'm still working on completing the river network. Once done, I'll start adding more roads, minor and dirt paths.
